Service
Cooker & appliance circuits in Reading.
Dedicated circuits for ovens, hobs and high-power appliances. Serving Reading and the surrounding RG postcodes.
City & Guilds qualified · Fully insured · BS 7671
What’s involved
Modern induction hobs and dual ovens often pull more power than a 13A spur can support. We install dedicated 32A or 45A cooker circuits with the right cable size, an isolator with a neon, and a connection unit behind the appliance. Same for hardwired showers, boilers, and high-load workshop tools. The work always ends with a Minor Works or Installation Certificate and a sticker on the consumer unit identifying the circuit.
Pricing guidance
Dedicated cooker circuit from consumer unit: £280–£450 depending on cable run distance and floor lifts needed. Replacing or relocating an existing cooker switch: £80–£140.
Final price is fixed before we start. We do not charge for on-site quotes within the local area.
FAQs
Common questions
Does an induction hob need its own circuit?
Most do, yes. Read the instruction manual: anything rated above 7kW needs a 32A or 45A dedicated supply. A 3kW portable single-zone hob can run on a 13A plug. Can the oven and hob share a circuit?
If the combined diversity-adjusted load is below the rating of the cable and breaker, yes — and that is how most domestic kitchens are wired. We do the calculation against your specific appliances.Do you supply the appliance or just connect it?
Connect, plus check the appliance terminations are correct. We do not supply the cooker itself — the kitchen fitter or homeowner buys it and we install the supply. Will you remove the old supply when fitting a new one?
Yes. Old redundant cables get terminated safely or removed, the consumer unit re-labelled, and the certificate updated.
