EV charger installation in Reading.

Home EV chargers, OZEV-compatible where applicable. Serving Reading and the surrounding RG postcodes.

City & Guilds qualified · Fully insured · BS 7671

What’s involved

We fit 7kW Type 2 home EV chargers on a dedicated 32A circuit with proper RCD/RDC-DD protection, earthing arrangement (PEN fault detection or earth rod where required), and a mounting that suits your driveway — flush wall, garage end, or post. We have done HIVE, Easee, Ohme, MyEnergi Zappi, and Wallbox — happy to install whichever you have chosen and to advise if you have not. The job takes a day for most installs, half a day if cable runs are short and the consumer unit has spare capacity.

Pricing guidance

Typical install fully fitted: £750–£1,200 depending on cable run and consumer unit work. Charger unit cost is separate (£400–£900 retail). OZEV EV chargepoint grant of up to £350 is available for flat-dwellers and renters meeting the eligibility rules.

Final price is fixed before we start. We do not charge for on-site quotes within the local area.

FAQs

Common questions

  • Can I get an EV charger if I do not have a driveway?
Domestic chargers need off-street parking by their nature. We do not run cable across a public footpath — that is a council issue. If you rent a flat with a dedicated parking bay, the OZEV grant scheme covers some of those scenarios; we can advise.
  • Do I need a smart charger?
By UK regulation, all new home chargers from 2022 onwards must be smart (default off-peak charging, scheduling, randomised delay). All the chargers we fit are smart-compliant.
  • Will my consumer unit need upgrading?
Sometimes. The charger needs a dedicated way in the consumer unit. If your board is full, we either add a small adjacent enclosure (cheaper) or replace the whole board (often the right time to do it). We tell you which before quoting.
  • How long does the install take?
Most installs are 4–6 hours. Longer cable runs (more than 15 m, or through multiple walls) push to a full day. We tidy up properly: cable on saddles or in trunking, charger plumb, consumer unit re-labelled, certificate emailed.
  • Will you notify the DNO?
Yes — for any home charger we submit the DNO notification (UK Power Networks, etc.) as part of the install. You do not need to do anything.
  • Are you OZEV-approved?
We work alongside OZEV-approved installers where the customer is eligible for the grant. Tell us at quoting stage and we will route the paperwork correctly.
